The Stoning of Soraya M

The Stoning of Soraya M. is a 2008 American drama film adapted from French-Iranian journalist Freidoune Sahebjam's 1994 book of the same name based on a true story. Stoning had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it was the runner-up for the Audience Choice Award. It was also the second runner-up for the Cadillac People's Choice Award. The book has been banned in Iran because of its perceived critical attitude toward the Iranian legal system.

Synopsis: In a world of secrecy, corruption and injustice, a single courageous voice can tell a true story that changes everything. This is what lies at the heart of the emotionally charged experience of The Stoning of Soraya M.

Based on an incredible true story, one of the victims of stonings in modern Iran. Soraya M.'s husband Ghorban-Ali was an ambitious man, prone to rage with a lust for power. He wanted a way out of his marriage in order to marry a 14 year old girl but did not want to support two families or return Soraya's dowry.

When Soraya began cooking for a friend's widowed husband, he found his excuse: abetted by village authorities, he accused his wife of adultery. She was taken away, buried up to her waist, and then stoned to death. (edited from Wikipedia)

This powerful tale of a village's persecution of an innocent woman becomes both a daring act of witness and a compelling parable about mob rule. Who will join forces with the plot against her, who will surrender to the mob, and who will dare to stand up for what is right. - Official Site

My eyes were full of tears when I was watching this movie (especially when I saw Soraya's own father, sons, friends, neighbors and husband betrayed/didn't believe in her.) Wondering how many others like her, throughout the world, who have no voice, being accused and stoned to death.

Again, for those who accused, killed and kept saying all these acts are from the mighty Allah, hope God will forgive them. Sad. I don't think God will want this to happen, only Satan who had poisoned the mind of the men is dancing happily out there.

Seems like Malaysia is not that bad after all. At least, they don't use such cruel punishment to human being.
