Vegetarian

What do you know about Vegetarian?

Several studies have shown that vegetarians are less likely to suffer from cancer and heart disease than meat eaters, and in a study carried out by the British Medical Association vegetarians were found to be slimmer and less prone to obesity. “Obviously there are good and bad vegetarian diets,” says Chris Descent of The Vegetarian Society, “but on the whole vegetarian diets tend to be higher in fiber, fruit and vegetables and lower in fat – particularly saturated fat.”

Fruits

 Vegetable

What are the different types of Vegetarians?

More and more types of vegetarian practices are being born from the need to satisfy groups of people worldwide to apply the vegetarian concept of living.

* Vegan - eats food of plant origin only

* Ovo vegetarian - eats eggs, honey but no dairy products, meat, fish or poultry

* Ovo-lacto vegetarian - eats eggs, honey and dairy products but no meat, fish or poultry

* Lacto vegetarian - eats dairy products and consume honey & dairy products but no eggs, meat, fish or poultry

* Pesco vegetarian - eats fish but no meat or poultry (controversial)

* Macrobiotics - eat nuts, legumes, whole grains and fish

* Raw Vegans - eat unprocessed food that has not been heated to above 46°C (115°F). Their diet mainly consists of raw vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, raw eggs, unheated dairy products and sushi.

* Fruitarians - eat only fruits, nuts, seeds and other plant matter that can be gathered without harming the plant.

* Pescetarians – those who refrain from consuming meat but will take in shellfish, seafood and fish.

* Pollo Vegetarians – half vegetarian, eat chicken and fish but not red meat.

* Flexitarians – refrain from meat if the specific beast was raised or slaughtered cruelly.

* Freeganists – eat all kinds of meat unless the environment was damaged or humans or animals were exploited while the meat was being prepared.

Remarks:
1. “lacto” comes from the Latin for milk
2. “ovo” for egg.
3. Some asian vegetarian does not consume 5 type of vegetable, such like onion, garlic, leek, shallots and chives. Some refering to strong-smelling plants, traditionally garlic, Allium chinense, asafoetida, shallot, and Allium victorialis (victory onion or mountain leek). They are belongs to Allium Vegetables.

Reasons for being a Vegetarian:

* Health reasons
- there is evidence of a link between meat-eating and such killers as heart disease and cancer

* Ecological reasons
 - concern about pollution and degradation of the environment

* Religious reasons
- all major religious scriptures condemn killing of any kind

* Compassion for animals
- animals too suffer pain and misery when slaughtered

* Belief in non-violence
 - we must eradicate all thoughts of violence before expecting peace in this world

* Economics
- meat feeds few at the expense of many

Although I am not a vegetarian, I learn to cut down my meat intake, replace with lots of vegetable and fruit in my daily meals. Since then, I no longer fall sick easily and the best part is - my migraine is fully cured. I feel healthier and fresher.

Why don't you try it and let me know the result!

Play gym

My princess feels bored easily, even when we place her in a colorful play gym with rattles around her. Unless we keep her company, shake the 'pole' and make the rattles move, then she can get fascinated for quite some time, staring at the moving rattle which makes different noises.

Then I feel that this is not the way as I won't be able to accompany her all the time when she is awake. It is better to teach her to be more independent and how to amuse herself.

So we taught her how to kick the 'pole', and make the rattles move. (Important motor skill!!)

Pull her leg...

...stretch and kick!

 When my princess is Happy, I'm Happy too~

Once she had learned this trick, I can concentrate on my blog for a longer time. Yay!

Family Photo

Bought a nice Nikon D5000 SLR Camera during our trip in KL last month. Provided with many free gifts, one of them is a nice, solid tripod.

Have been using the camera pretty often for my princess and also my blog. But till now, we never really have the patient to read through the user's manual book (231 pages) and also to try on the tripod. Told my hubby that we should use that tripod to capture our family photo ONE DAY. He agreed. Ya. ONE DAY, we will use that for sure! (Lazy couple~)

So, before we can capture our first family photo ourselves,
we capture part of the family photos of ours! Cheers~

Expired Medicine+ Maid

Last night my maid told us that she had stomachache. After asking where was the pain, we found out that it was actually gastric pain. A bit surprised because we have so many types of food for her to eat in the kitchen, such as bread with peanut butter, jam, butter spread, assorted cookies, different flavor instant noodle where she can add in eggs, meat and vegetable whenever she wants.

We even provide her Milo, milk, imported chocolate drinks, different types of tea and coffee for her (at first she preferred Milo, then switched to milk everyday). She dislikes tea and coffee. Emm..... Wonder she had overeaten or starved that caused her gastric problem?

Then she told us that she hardly eat bread nowadays. Depends on her mood. If she wants to eat, she will take it, else will only take biscuits with milk. Sometimes feel fed up with the food, she only drinks milk when she is hungry. As for the noodle, she prefers Indo Mee only (which she finished long time ago). Other flavors which we bought for her are chicken, curry and tomyam. She doesn't eat those because it's not the one she likes. We told her that we will only buy Indo Mee after she finished the other flavor. Gosh. How can she be so choosy!

Anyway, when my hubby and I tried to get her medicine from our first aid box, we found out that most of our medicine are expired. After discarding, the first aid box looks so empty now. Luckily the medicine she needs only expired in 2012 so we needn't go out to buy for her. Taught her how/when to eat. (One thing that makes me worry is that, my maid takes painkiller too often. She can finish the Paracetamol (Panadol) very fast. Whenever she feels slightly uncomfortable, she will pop one into her mouth. Told her not to do that already, she said that makes her feel better. Hope her kidney and liver will be fine.)

 When I got back to the room, I asked my hubby, "Since when I had became a doctor?"

 Look at the medicine we can't keep.

My hubby said, it is such a waste to throw all these 'new' medicine away. I told him that we should feel happy that we were all so healthy and needn't swallow all those for the past few years.

All these reminded me that I was weak, got sick easily and need all those medicine to sustain previously. Seems like what the old people said is true, "Must have proper confinement food to get enough nutrition. Your weak body can get heal forever in this period of time."

Sometimes I just don't really understand my maid. Although she is from poor family, she doesn't really cherish food like what my hubby and I do. She will throw away the food she can't finish and refuse to eat the food she dislikes.

For example that day we brought her to Pizza Hut. She threw away the toppings because she dislikes them (gosh, should only let her eat dough then). My husband and I finished everything but she just treated those topping as lousy food.

Not only that, at home, she will not touch/eat/cook the things she dislikes too, such as cucumber, watermelon, carrot, tomato, winter melon, midin, paku-pakis, peas, corn, celery, cauliflower, cabbage, bean sprout, etc. I found out that she tried to avoid in cooking those vegetable and waited till they got rotten so that she could threw them away. Then I learn to check the fridge from time to time, told her what to cook for the next meal, avoiding her to continue such bad habit.

To her, vegetable are cheap food where she can get it easily at the jungle when she was at her hometown, so she throws the leaf of the vegetable when there is a bit yellowish or holes, eaten by the worms. (whereas we will only throw the part which is not nice and keep the rest). So most of the time, one plate of vegetable dish, we will be eating the stem rather than the leaf. Told her many times, seems like she doesn't really 'understand' that vegetable are not cheap at all.

Sigh. Can only be patient and look at the bright side. Well, with her help, I'm less stressful with the housework, only need to concentrate on my princess. So, I should learn how to give THANKS and 'educate' her + close one eye at the same time.

Are you ready to be a mother?

Am I ready to be a mother?
You must have been asking yourself this question ever since you got married.

We make choices everyday. Some choices are easy but some can affect the rest of our lives. You have to know what is important to you and what do you want!

Something for you to consider:

  • What would you feel if you found out you are pregnant today? Happy? Excited? Loved? Depressed? Angry? Scared? Stressed?
  • Do you have a supportive husband who is ready to be a father?
  • Are you willing to give up on your hobby/interest/job after being a mother?
  • Are you financially ready?
  • Will you regret?

Babies are cute but a mother's job can never end. Babies need to be fed, diapered, cared, loved, dressed, comforted, played with and nurtured. Taking care of a baby can be 24/7, which means you have to get up in the middle of the night to feed, change diaper and meet the baby's needs.

Before being a mother, you have to be financially ready, physically (make sure you have a healthy body to get pregnant) and mentally prepared. Please don't get pregnant because your parents/in-laws want you to do so. It is a choice of your life. Once you are a parent, you will forever be a parent. It is a choice where you have no turning back so please be absolutely ready/prepared before proceeding.

Many mothers can tell you how fun their lives became ever since they have a new family member. Before you get too tempted, you should find out more.

Such as, do you mind:-

1) your body to get bloated/ballooned up during pregnancy
which may takes more than half a year to slim down?
(Some of them failed to get back to their slim/fit body after birth.)

2) to take supplement such as,  folic acid, vitamin-c, iron pill
and calcium pills throughout the pregnancy?

3) to STOP smoking, drinking alcoholic/caffeine beverages and taking your favorite raw food, etc which are bad for your baby?

4) to have stretch marks?

5) to have hormone changes which may give you
more freckles(pregnancy mask)/pimples on your face and body or even change your voice?

6) to suffer from nausea (morning sickness), insomnia and cramps for months?

7) to have saggy breasts?

8) to go through the labour pain/postnatal c-sec pain + scar?

9) to look after the baby 24/7 no matter how tired/sleepy/sick you are?

10) to stop going out or cut down the frequency of
shopping/clubbing/gathering with your friends weekly?

11) to change diaper for the baby?

12) to take care of your sick baby rather than watching movie with your friend?

13) to have a baby/kid follows wherever you go?

 14) to educate your child?

If your answers are YES, congratulations, you are ready to be a mother!

Honestly speaking, in reality, no one is probably ever really "ready" to have a baby.  Even when it's planned out, it can still be an overwhelming experience to see the positive pregnancy test results!

The best way for a person to know if they are ready to have a baby is to think hypothetically what their own reaction would be upon seeing a positive test result - If you can see yourself freaking out and feeling like your entire future is gone, and that you would feel helpless and lost without terminating the pregnancy or giving the child up for adoption, you are NOT ready.

However, if you can imagine yourself being elated, and knowing in your heart that no matter what, you CAN do this and you WILL do this, you are ready. (advice from Erasorhed)
